Yoshishige Saito is an internationally renowned artist and pioneer of the avant garde movement in Japan.
He drew abstract paintings and creating chipboard relief works under the strong influence of Russian constructivism and dada.
Born in Tokyo.
He joined the Avant-Garde Western Painting Research Institute, founded by Harue Koga , Seiji Togo and others.
He founded Ninth Room Association with Jiro Yoshihara and others.
He founded the Art-Culture Association with Ichiro Fukuzawa and other Surrealist artists.
He won Mr.K’s Prize for “Demon” at the 4th International Art Exhibition, Japan.
He won First Prize for “Work R” at the 4th Exhibition of Contemporary Japanese Art and Honorable Mention at the 3rd Guggenheim International Award Exhibition.
He won International Painting Prize at the 6th Sao Paulo Biennial.
He served as a professor at Tama Art University in Tokyo.
He held solo exhibition “Saito Yoshishige Exhibition” in National Museum of Modern Art , Tokyo.
He held solo exhibition“Saito Yoshishige Exhibition” in Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Modern Art, Hyogo, Ohara Museum of Art, and Fukui Prefectural Museum of Art .
He held solo exhibition “Yoshishige Saito –Time・Space, Wood”, Yokohama Museum of Art and Tokushima Modern Art Museum.

He died at the age of 97.
